The 18th Summer Postgraduate Residential Seminary in the Principles & Practice of Hahnemannian Homoeopathy was conducted by The National Academy of Homoeopathy, India, at Late Dr J.N.Kanjilal Memorial Hall, Shaad Hospital Complex & Research centre, near Itwari Railway station, Nagpur, India from 12th to 26th April, 2009. Dr. Mrs. Suhasini Palsapure & Dr. Chandrakant Raghatate inaugurated the School. They lauded the efforts of the Academy & exhorted that Homoeopathy should be practiced diligently and on a scientific footing. Such CME’s were the need of the hour so that the neophytes and the practioners alike would be abreast with the latest research in the field. The Directors of the School, Drs. Kasim & Aadil Chimthanawala clearly emphasized the point that the School is based strictly on the tradition of Guru-Shishya parampara. In this intensive course a strict discipline is maintained. It aims in imparting clinical training to homoeopathic graduates on scientific lines. About 40-45 live cases are kept daily for the purpose of case taking, analysis & discussion.

The Academy conducts such schools biannually for students and practitioners. This is such a sought after course that 40 students enrolled this time instead of limited 25. They were from different places from India like Raipur, Gwalior, Bhopal, Delhi, Jabalpur, Lucknow, Mumbai, etc.
Some highlights of the present course were the early morning Yoga & Positive Thinking classes, daily OPD & IPD visits and detailed case analysis and discussions, deliveries, caesarian sections, voluntary drug proving project, exhaustive library sessions, thesis presentations etc. Applied philosophy (including the concept of Sickness evolution, Theory of Etiopathogenesis, Remedy types, Symptom Types, Chronic Miasms, Human Mind & Mental Symptoms, States of Disposition, etc.) and Portrait Materia Medica were taught in the most conceivable manner. Likewise Homoeopathy in Cardiology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Gastro-enterology, Skin, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, Gynecology & Obstetrics, Dentistry, Radiology, ECG etc was discussed extensively. An important concept for a scientific homoeopathic practice that appealed to us the most was the concept of Case Types in chronic cases. It is helpful to evaluate the prognosis of the case.

Every chronic case is classified in any of the 5 types:
Type 1- Natural curable cases – Miasmatically evolved, reversible pathology and individualistic symptoms. The management approach is by administering similimum / constitutional remedy on essential totality and or basic totality.

Type 2- Incurable cases – like congenital anomalies, cases with gross irreversible pathological changes, drug diseases, true surgical cases, etc. Here the treatment approach is by Palliation.

Type 3- One sided cases – In these cases there are multiple incomplete symptoms. Hence the totality can’t be constructed. They become difficult to treat. The management of such cases should be preferably started with a deep acting-Nosode that is prescribed on the basis of the family and past history.

Type 4 – Settled Cases – cases which have been symptomatically relieved every now and then. The management requires that the homoeopath should judiciously try to reduce the symptomatic drugs as far as possible and give Homoeopathic replacement drugs. If the patient remains asymptomatic after the complete withdrawal of those drugs then a re-case taking should be done and if possible a Similimum be selected.

Type 5 - Mixed cases – complex of multiple symptoms eg. Congenital, drug disease and post surgical condition in a single case. Treatment – treat each disease/ symptom separately.

The last day ended with the cultural programme and convocation ceremony.
This column space is too less to describe the Academy, its dedication and it s work in homoeopathy. It has been a wonderful and a vast learning experience for all 40 homoeopaths. We think this is the best place to study Homoeopathy under such eminent Gurus. I am delighted the torch of Hahnemannian Homoeopathy is glowing in all its magnamity at The National Academy of Homoeopathy, India.
Hail Hahnemann, Hail Homoeopathy!
